Dorothy Elizabeth Spencer, 90, of Turlock, California died Monday, March 5, 2012 at Brandel Manor following an extended illness.
Dorothy was born on March 18, 1921, in Nashville, TN, the daughter of Leonard Hardaway, Sr. and Eunice Carita (Darrow) Hardaway, both of Tennessee. She grew up in Nashville and moved to Modesto, CA, following graduation from High School where she met and married Thurston Spencer, her husband of 65 years.
Dorothy was a homemaker, participant in PTA and elementary education, and active in retail sales for many years. She and Thurston were members of the Church of Christ their entire lives and members of the Turlock Church of Christ following retirement and moved to their Turlock ranch "Almond Joy."
Dorothy was an artist working in oils and acrylics and was a student of Iona Heppler. She brought a sense of grace and artistry to her home and any endeavor that she undertook.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Leonard Hardaway, Jr. She is survived by her son Dr. Michael R. Spencer, daughter-in-law Dr. Helen E. Spencer, and two grandchildren, Thomas Robert Spencer and Lisa Michelle Spencer, all of Stockton, CA.
Funeral service is scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 9 at Allen Mortuary Turlock CA. Visitation is from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 8 also at Allen Mortuary.
