Dorothy Gladys Ross
Sept 1912 Aug 2014
c20093 1

Dorothy Wire Ross was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 6, 2014 just weeks shy of her 102nd birthday.  Dorothy was born in Chino, CA to Charles and Jo (Passmore) Wire.  She attended high school in Chino and Chaffey College in Ontario before marrying Harlon Clyde Ross in 1932.   Together they worked hard farming in the Pomona and Etiwanda areas before settling in Turlock in 1963.  She helped feed chickens, clean eggs, smudge citrus, bottle feed calves and any other work that needed to be done on the ranch and in the home.  Her priority was providing a loving home for her husband and daughter.

Dorothy was very artistic, even contributing her artwork to her high school yearbook; she also enjoyed crocheting and made many afghans and doilies over the years.  Her friends and family treasured the letters and postcards she personalized with her artwork.  She enjoyed traveling with Harlon and collecting elephants and pictures of sunsets.

She was an organist and pianist at Pomona Bethel Church before they moved to Turlock where she was a longtime member and organist at Mitchell Community Church.  Later they joined the First Baptist Church in Ceres.  She also played piano for Awana groups and Released Time under the leadership of Alice Wright.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Rosalyn (Rosie) Ross and “other daughter” Jan Toews; brother Donald (June) Wire; many nieces and nephews from the Passmore, Wire and Ross families; as well as Rosie’s extended family of friends who enjoyed weekends at “the farm”.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harlon Clyde Ross in August of 1995; and siblings Mabel Wire and Rosamond Files.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the nurses and staff at Brandel Manor in Turlock for their loving care in the final 2 ½ years of her life.
