Floy was born in Treat, Ark. and passed away at the Turlock Nursing & Rehab Home in Turlock. She was one of seven children and grew up in Tahlequah, Okla.
She married Orval Welch in 1940; lived in several states due to his working in construction; and spent many years moving between Modesto, Oakdale and Turlock each winter, and the Groveland area each summer to haul logs and lumber. She raised her three sons after her husband’s death in 1957; provided the family income by managing their trucking business for Snider Lumber Products in Turlock, then co-owned and operated the Busy Bee Restaurant in Oakdale with her sister Pearl. She finished her career at Hershey’s in Oakdale. She spent her life dedicated to her family and the Church of Christ.
She is survived by sisters, Pearl Hickman of Oakdale and Eula Jean Haynes of Stockton; sons, Orval (Diane) Welch of Turlock, Kenneth (Shirley) Welch of Boise Idaho and Randal (Blanca) Welch of Riverbank; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orval; parents, Stella Ada and Alexander Ross; brothers, Haskell Ross and Verlon Ross; and sisters, Bessie Elmore and Jewel Copeland.
A viewing will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 13 at Allen Mortuary, 247 N. Broadway in Turlock. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 14 at the Turlock Church of Christ, 801 N. Tully Ave. A private family graveside service will be held in Merced.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances are made to the Oakdale Church of Christ, 33 N. Lee Ave. in Oakdale.
