George J. Heilman, was born in Dickinson, North Dakota to parents Lawrence and Mary Heilman. He grew up with seven sisters and four brothers on a Midwest wheat farm. George was later drafted to serve in the U.S. Army in the Ninth Armored Division, which was part of the third army serving in Europe during World War II. George returned home to North Dakota where he met and married his wife, Carol. They were married 65 years.
George and Carol moved to southern California where he worked at Flying Tigers and Lockheed Missiles. After their ninth child was born, they bought a farm outside of Turlock, California, where they raised their children and were active in many community services revolving around their children and Sacred Heart Parish.
George is survived by his wife Carol; children John, Helen Evangelho, Betty Holmes, Mary, Michael, Judy Hobbs,
Don and Ken; he is preceded in death by oldest son, David.
He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Viewing will begin at Allen Mortuary on Thursday, May 3 at 4:00pm, the evening Rosary will follow at 7:00pm. The Mass will be Friday, May 4 at 12:00pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church; burial will follow at Turlock Memorial Park. Services will conclude with a reception at Allen Event Center.
