Joseph R. “Joe” Vierra

Joseph R. “Joe”   Vierra, 85, passed away at his Madera County residence on Monday, September 14, 2020.  Joe was born to Azorean immigrants William and Mary Meneses Vierra in Turlock, California, where he graduated from Turlock High School.  A strong work ethic was instilled in Joe along with his brothers and sisters on the family dairy farm at an early age.  He served in the U.S. Army Reserve with duty in Alabama.    He met and married his wife Janet and were married in April of 1967 at the Catholic Church in Escalon, California.

In 1970 Joe and his wife Janet relocated to Madera where they purchased the Shein Dairy which they operated for several years before leaving the dairy industry to focus on Pistachio farming up until the time of his passing.  Joe has been a long time member of the Luso-American Portuguese Fraternal Society and was a member of St. Joachim Parish in Madera.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by all of his siblings. 

Joe is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet, by his children, John Vierra and his wife Jerenne of Los Vegas, NV, and Jason Vierra and his wife Annaliza of Madera,   he is the grandfather of Joseph Daniel Vierra, Anthony Joseph Vierra and Chelby Margarita Vierra.

Visitation will be on Monday, September 21, 2020 from 4 to 8 PM at Jay Chapel in Madera.  Recitation of the Rosary will be on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at 9:30 AM at St. Joachim Catholic Church’s Courtyard area, the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 AM.  Entombment will be in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum in Madera.
