Julie Rodrigues

Julie Rodrigues passed peacefully on June 29 in Garden Grove, California.  A former resident of Turlock, California, she is survived by two nephews, Rick (Lisa) Rodrigues of Villa Park, IL and Steve Rodrigues of Cypress, California; great-neices:  Holly (Brent) Jefferson, Julie (Timothy) Widholm and Katie (Matthew) Knox and great-nephew Charles (Melissa) Rodrigues; and eight great-great nephews and nieces.  She was predeceased by her great-nephew David Rodrigues.

Julie was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, to Antonio Rodrigues Sampaio and Amelia Julia da Silva, both of whom were immigrants to the United States from Northern Portugal.  She graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1941, worked for General Electric Company during World War II and moved to California in 1949 to begin her career as a civil servant for Alameda County.  In 1966, she was appointed the first woman to serve as a court clerk in Alameda County.  She retired to Turlock, California, in 1984 and spent her retirement years traveling, doing volunteer work for Turlock Emanuel Hospital and St. Francis Episcopal Church.

She will be remembered by her family as a loving and kind Aunt.  Donations may be made in her honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which was her favorite charity.
