Kaname Benjamin Miyamoto, 99 of Cortez, Ca. passed away at his home on May 15, 2014.  Ben was born in Florin, CA on July 5, 1914 to Matsuichi and Sadako Miyamoto. He lived in Firebaugh and Dos Palos before he and came with his family to Cortez. 

He was a member of the Cortez Buddhist Church (Howakai), the Cortez J.A.C.L and the Cortez Growers Association.  He also served as a volunteer for the Delhi Fire Department for almost 50 years.  He served on the Board of Trustees for the Merced County Board of Education and was and active leader in 4-H. 

Ben is preceded in death by his wife Yoshiko “Rosie” Miyamoto and his sons Douglas Miyamoto and James “Jimmy” Miyamoto. 

He is survived by his children, Anita (Duncan) Kelley, Betty (John) Casey, Catherine (Lester) Obata and Janite (Ken) Keeney; daughter-in-law Sharon Miyamoto; grandchildren, Korene (John) Lindberg, Traci Obata, Larry (Reiko) Obata, Dianna Miyamoto (Phillip Massie); great grandchildren, Blake Lindberg, Conor Lindberg, Corbin Obata, and Allison Massie. He is also survived by his sister, Alice Ogura.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 P.M. on Friday, May 23 at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd. in Turlock.  A funeral will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 24, 2014, also at Turlock Funeral Home.  Committal will be private at Chapel of the Flowers Mausoleum at Turlock Memorial Park.
