Mario Olivieri, 92, died May 18 at Valley Comfort Assisted Living in Modesto. He was born on Nov. 11, 1917 to the late Giacomo and Margherita Olivieri in Valley Home.
He married Bea in San Francisco on May 16, 1948, and they lived in Stockton before relocating to Modesto in 1958. Mario served in WWII. He was in the Reserves and later served as an Air Force navigator in Korea. He attained the rank of Lt. Colonel. Mario worked as a property appraiser for the State Dept. of Veterans Affairs, helping veterans obtain home loans. He retired in 1984. In his youth, Mario enjoyed bowling, fishing and the mountains. He was an avid duplicate bridge player for many years and also enjoyed square, round and ballroom dancing.
Mario is survived by his wife, Bea; daughter, Sandra Ellis of Tustin; brother, Joe Olivieri, and sister, Vera McLaughlin, both of Stockton.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 25 at the Free Methodist Church, 1520 Rose Ave., Modesto. A reception will follow. Allen Mortuary is entrusted with the arrangements; please share your condolences at www.allenmortuary.com.
