Paulo R. Goulart, 82, of Modesto, passed away at his residence Friday peacefully surrounded by his beloved extended family and caretakers. Mr. Goulart was a native of Sao Jorge, Azores Islands and a resident of Modesto for three years. He previously resided in Turlock and in San Diego for many years. He was the owner of a trucking company and a travel agent. He was the founder of Hora Portuguesa Radio Program in San Diego, and the co-founder, first president and first member of the Azorean Alliance Club. Mr. Goulart was a member of the Portuguese Fraternal Society of America and held membership in the four composing Societies. He served as the Supreme President of the former Supreme Council of S.E.S. from 1970 - 1971 and was the dean of S.E.S. Past Supreme Presidents.
Mr. Goulart was an active member and part of the Cabrillo Club Committee for the yearly celebrations. He was a past officer of Luso-American Life and Luso-American Fraternal Federation. He was also on the board of directors of the Luso-American Education Foundation for many years, which was a cause very dear to his heart; and for the past two years he was an honorary director. He was a member of the Luso-American Life Insurance Society and the Luso-American Education Foundation.
A memorial mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 26 at St. Joachims’ Catholic Church, 13392 E. Lockeford Ranch Rd., Lockeford. Private interment was held.
