Jean was born in Erick, Okla. to Oscar and Molly Butts in 1924. She was raised in Texas and later settled in Turlock with her husband Frances Melvin Peterson. Frances and Jean raised their two children in Turlock on property they owned in the country. Jean was very involved in the PTA at Johnson Joint School where her children attended. She was a charter member of Monte Vista Chapel and enjoyed the many years she spent helping in the children’s nursery and Awanas program at church. 

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Ann (Keith) Clukey of Colorado Springs, Colo. and her children, Sherry and Christina; son, Wayne (Cheri) Peterson of Stockton and his children, Erik and Kris; and 13 great grandchildren. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Frances Melvin Peterson; her parents; and eight siblings. 

Viewing will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at Allen Mortuary. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at Monte Vista Chapel. Private burial will take place at

Turlock Memorial Park.
