Vernon Vern Lee Sivils

Vernon Sivils was born in Modesto and raised in Turlock.  He attended grade school in Japan, El Centro and Turlock, graduating from Turlock High in 1964 where he played in the Pep Band.   
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1970. Vernon played the saxophone with the Navy Band, which toured the Mediterranean and entertained royalty. Upon leaving the military, he continued to play in several bands in the Turlock and surrounding area.
He was employed with the Modesto Welfare Department during the ‘70s. Later, he moved to Salinas where he worked as a Tupperware Distributor. In the 1990s he settled back in Turlock where he worked for several machine shops.
Vernon’s interest was his music, but he also enjoyed playing golf and working in the yard.
He is survived by his brother, Joe Sivils Sr. of Turlock; his sister, Kathy (Sivils, Anderson) Lancaster of Mariposa, Calif.; and five nephews and three nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Byron A. and Hope (Green) Sivils; and his infant sister, Cherry Gail Sivils.
Private services and interment have been held under the direction of Turlock Memorial Park & Funeral Home.
