Bill Genn, Jr., 82, of Hilmar, passed away at Stanford Medical Center. He was born in Springer, Okla. and moved to Los Angeles at age 15. In 1946, he joined the Army and it was there that Bill  started driving heavy equipment. He married the love of his life, Juanita Dehart, in 1949. They lived in the Hilmar area for most of their married life. Bill was a heavy equipment operator for 40 years. He worked road construction and leveled land for farming in the Hilmar area. He joined the Operating Engineers Local #3 Union in 1961. He retired in Hilmar to work on his farm in 1989. He was also a Master Mason of the Livingston Lodge.
Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Juanita Genn; two sons, William H. Genn III (Gwin) of Beaumont, Texas, and Jerry W. (Frances) Genn of Hilmar; grandson, Ruben Genn; and step-granddaughter, Gayle Elleven.
Services to honor Bill are scheduled at Allen Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, followed by a Celebration of Life at 6 p.m. on the same day. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 22 at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be considered in Bill’s name to the charity of your choice.
