Both Cal State Stanislaus men’s and women’s teams have been chosen to finish somewhere in the middle of the North Division races in the upcoming 2009 California Collegiate Athletic Association seasons, according to polls of league coaches released earlier this week.
The women, who are coming off their seventh winning season in eight years, were selected to place fourth behind predicated winner Sonoma State, Chico State and San Francisco State. Humboldt State and Cal State Monterey Bay round out the field.
The Stanislaus men were voted to finish in a fourth-place tie with Cal State Monterey Bay. Just like in the women’s poll, Sonoma State was chosen to take the CCAA men’s title, as Chico State and San Francisco State round out the top three. Humboldt State is expected to finish last.
Both Stanislaus soccer programs enter the 2009 season with intriguing storylines.
The men welcome a new coach in Dana Taylor, who left Division I’s Oregon State of the Pac-10 during the offseason to essentially build a program from the ground up, highlighted by the fact that the Warriors will play in the new Warrior Stadium that is set to open with an Aug. 27 doubleheader against Hawaii Hilo with the women’s team.
The women are coming off a record-breaking season, but with holes to fill judging by the program’s loss of seven seniors due to graduation, including a handful of co-captains.
In both coaches’ polls, neither Cal State Stanislaus team was picked to participate in the CCAA Tournament that will be held Nov. 6-8 at Warrior Stadium.
