Arturo Pulido broke open a scoreless game in the 52nd minute as the Cal State Stanislaus men's soccer team beat Cal State Monterey Bay, 3-0, Friday night at Warrior Stadium.
Pulido's score came at 51:43 to put the Warriors on the board in a tight match. His free kick came about 20 yards out, just outside of the box. The shot sailed past a diving CSUMB goalkeeper to his left.
With the win, the Warriors improved to 9-5-1 overall and 7-5-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. For the time being the Warriors are in third place with 22 points, four points behind leader Sonoma State. Sonoma State tied at Cal State San Bernardino and Chico State hosts Cal State East Bay in a night game.
The win also ensures another winning season, Stanislaus' third straight, under head coach Dana Taylor.
Daniel Kuczynski scored his fifth goal of the year in the 67th minute to give Stanislaus a 2-0 lead. His goal was assisted by Paul Oei at 66:55.
Juan Alvarez then tagged on another score in the 89th minute. Oei was credited with another assist.
Cal State Monterey Bay, which beat the Warriors in Seaside earlier this season, falls to 6-7-1 overall and 6-6-1 in the CCAA. The Otters were tied for third place in the CCAA North.
The Otters played the final 31 minutes one man down after Eli Zamora picked up a red card.
The Warriors out-shot Monterey Bay, 11-5. The Cal State Stanislaus defense held the Otters without a shot on goal.
