The tables turned in a heartbeat for the Delhi High volleyball team.

After a crushing defeat at the hands of Downey on Tuesday night in the team’s foundation contest, head coach Lauren Ruell spoke some words to her squad—something that really changed things.

On Thursday, the Hawks had a second chance at the Downey Vikings from Los Angeles, and this time took the win, 3-0 (25-15, 25-23 and 25-16).

“We had a good talk Tuesday after our foundation game loss to Downey and my assistant and I went into practice with a completely new mindset and strategy,” said Ruell. “They seem to be ready to be successful; I just want them to remember the feeling of such a great win.”

The Hawks were led by Amanda Sandhu’s 21 digs and Bianca Escobedo’s seven kills.

Lisette Castorena tallied three blocks and Veronica Garcias amassed a team-high three aces for the game.

After a 10-point victory in the opening game, the Vikings challenged the Hawks in the second game, which proved to be the closest, ending in a narrow two-point win for the Hawks.

“We will keep pushing them to their limits during practices and in return I hope we continue to perform well,” Ruell said.

Delhi’s next game will be at Livingston at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
