Heading into the 2010 girls golf season, Hilmar High, Pitman High and Turlock High all have unique storylines.

Turlock High goes in as the most successful program in the area, having won the past six Central California Conference titles under Coach Mary Krupka, who is hoping to guide this year’s group of Bulldogs to another undefeated run. They want to go far as a team this year, perhaps trying to match — or top — the program’s best finish in 2007, when those Bulldogs captured the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I South Championship.

Senior Abby Falke was in that group, and she’s one of the leaders this season along with senior Amy Cunha and junior Emma Mendes.

On the other side of town is Pitman, which also looks to make another strong run with returners like Annie Fei, Karisma Garcia, Cheyenne Horner, Sienna Samra and Isabella Mata. “We will be in the thick of things,” said Coach Ken Stangl, who’s in his 10th season.

He also said his team boasts “experience, intelligence and hard work.”

As for Hilmar, the Yellowjackets are coming off a stellar season. They qualified for the playoffs in 2009, but that task appears to be more difficult to reach this time around. Coach Ty Pettigrew is returning three juniors in Keeley Pettigrew, Courtney Youngborg and Janet Jones, as he’s uncertain about the rest of the team.

That’s because it’s still early in the season and the Yellowjackets don’t start play until Aug. 30.
