2009 record: 3-2 Western Athletic Conference, 8-3 overall

Head coach: Frank Marques (8th year)

Assistants: Frankie Silveira, Scott Sousa, Jeremy McLaughlin, Craig Handy, Jack Handy, Adam Komos

Top returners: Nate Azevedo, Daniel Greenleaf, Isaac Diaz, Ryan White, Trent Goiburn, Luke Brindeiro, Devin AzevedoTop newcomers: Andrew Olson, Garrett Jericoff, Zack Giuliano, Austin Almeida, Anthony Diaz

Outlook: The biggest change for the Yellowjackets is their schedule. After a five-year absence, Hilmar will return to the Trans Valley League. It’s home, said  coach Frank Marques. That’s because for 25 years, the Yellowjackets had built strong rivalries against teams like Hughson and Escalon before playing in the Western Athletic Conference, something they did for the final time in 2009. Hilmar enters the 2010 season with a semi-new quarterback in Andrew Olson, who filled in for Quinton McCown late in the season after McCown went down with a season-ending injury. Olson was forced to become a leader, and the same is expected this season. The Yellowjackets will have both veteran and upcoming talent. Marques also said this year’s team reminds him of the 2008 Sac-Joaquin Section Championship team, because of “raw talent and athleticism.”
