The Yellowjackets of Hilmar are off to a 2-0 start in league after their varsity wrestling squad defeated Hughson High on Wednesday night from home, 49-21.

This came after the Yellowjackets ousted the Huskies by winning nine of 14 matches for the night.

“I was happy with our team’s performance. We are still young with only two seniors in the varsity lineup and have been plagued with injuries early this season. We had guys step up and get it done,” said Hilmar head coach Ray Santos.

Steven Villanueva (126), Braiden Stubblefield (132), Steven Silva (138), Luis Flores (145) and Travis Maynard (152) all won via pin for Hilmar.

Mark LaBass (170), Efrain Duenas (182), Trace VanGuilder (220) and Jared Collier (285) each also picked up victories for Hilmar.
