Turlock boys lap the field; Pitman girls edge Turlock

CERES — Turlock High’s boys cross country team took first place in the Central California Athletic League meet, while the Pitman girls slipped past Turlock top honors Wednesday at the River Bluff course.

The meet was the second CCAL meet of the season. Turlock’s boys and Pitman’s girls were victorious in the first CCAL meet at Modesto’s Tuolumne Regional Park on Sept. 13.

The Bulldogs triumphed in the boys meet with 32 pints, followed by Enochs (63), Pitman (94), Modesto (101), Downey (118) and Gregori (126).

On the girls side, both Turlock and Pitman totaled 33 points, ahead of Gregori (91), Downey (105), Modesto (132) and Enochs (144). But because Pitman’s sixth runner recorded a better time than Turlock’s No. 6 runner, the Pride eked out the victory.

Modesto High’s Mehtaab Dhillon once again took top honors, finishing the 5-kilometer course in 16:39.36, followed by Turlock junior Theodore Santos (16:46.76) in second place.

Bulldogs senior Daniel Zaragoza (16:50.34) and junior Logan Petty (17:07.15) were fourth and fifth, while Pitman’s Julius Camacho (17.14.93) was sixth.

Turlock’s Angel Solis De La Cruz (17:23.45), Jackson Hall (17:24.37) and Diego Perez (17:12.95) rounded out the Top 12, finishing 10th, 11th and 12th.

Like Dhillon, Downey’s Zoe Leach was a repeat winner for the girls, finishing in 19:20.93, a full 24 seconds ahead of runner-up Maya Day (19:44.96) of Turlock, and nearly 40 seconds ahead of third-place finisher Avery Carlson (19:59.57) in front of Pitman’s Avery Carlson.

Turlock and Pitman dominated the top 10, taking every spot except for No. 1.

The Bulldogs’ Daizy Gonzalez (20:17.05) was fourth, while the Pride’s Aubrey Lascano (20:30.64) was fifth. Lila Bracket (20:51.00) of Turlock was sixth; Pitman’s Nayeli Mattison (20:56.52) and Adellyn Persons (21:12.36) were seventh and eighth; Turlock’s Lilly Edgerton (21:45.38) was ninth; and Pitman’s Emerson Newton (21:47.10) was 10th.
