It was a weekend of ups and downs for the teams of Turlock Youth Football as the 49ers hosted the Buhach Thunder and the Vikings visited the Manteca Jr. Buffaloes.
The 49ers hosted the Thunder in their first home game of the season with mixed results across all levels. Pee Wee shut out their opponents with a 32-0 victory, while JV and Varsity squads both lost to the Thunder. JV was outscored 19- 6 while the Varsity fought back from a weak first half, only to fall short, 28-22. Next week the 49ers are back on the road to take on the Modesto Broncos with game times at 1:30 p.m. for Rookies, 3 p.m. for Pee Wee, 5 p.m. for JV and 7 p.m. for Varsity.
As for the Vikings, who had a rare Sunday game, they saw good and bad news on the road, too. The Viking Pee Wee team destroyed the Jr Buffs 61- 6 and JV did quite well with a victory over the Jr Buffs, but the Varsity team continued its losing streak with 28 -8 loss. Next week the Vikings will be at home hosting the Merced Cougars with game times at 1:30 p.m. for Rookies, 3 p.m. for Pee Wee, 5 p.m. for JV and 7 p.m. for Varsity.
This week we feature the Pee Wee 49er game. The 49ers shut out the Buhach Thunder, earning a goose egg for the second week in a row. The defense was led by hard hitting middle linebacker David Cruz while the offense was led by QB Devin Day who had a touchdown run with a QB keeper. Juan “The Tank” Mora aided the 49ers with several runs for huge gains which allowed the 49ers to setup touchdowns for Dason Evans, who had two on the day, and Cade Gilbert who scored one. A fifteen yard touchdown scramble by Jacob Putnam also added to the score.
