Week 10 was the famous “Bud” Faria Bowl which was started in 1994 in memory of Bud Faria who was a long time contributor to Turlock Youth Football.  In this annual epic event, TYF teams go head to head and compete against one another — for bragging rights and the Bud Bowl trophy.  The winning team has the trophy engraved with the winning score and the year.

This week was the first time the Rookies kept score, and what a week it was for the Rookie Vikings. They won with seconds left in the game, ending the game with a safety and a final score of 9-7.  The Pee Wee Vikings crushed the Niners with a shutout 44-0 victory; while the JV squads saw the Vikings come out for a win with a score of 28-6. The Varsity teams battled it out and the Niners handed a loss to the Vikings for the first time in six years. The final score was 14-8.

On Sunday the Rookies battled again, and both TYF teams won allowing them to play in the first round of playoffs.  Next week the Vikings will travel to Manteca, who is hosting the AFC playoffs with the Rookie Vikings taking on the Manteca Junior Buffaloes at 1:30 p.m.  The undefeated Pee Wee Vikings will go against Buhach Thunder at 3 p.m. and the JV Vikings will battle the Merced Cougars at 5 p.m.  The Varsity Vikings will go head to head against the Manteca Junior Buffaloes at 7 p.m.

With the win against the Vikings at Bud Bowl, the 49ers secured a home field advantage and will host the NFC playoffs with the Pee Wee 49ers taking on the Manteca Jaguars at 3 p.m., JV 49ers going against the Merced Bears at 5 p.m. and  the Varsity 49ers will battle the Los Banos Wildcats at 7 p.m.  Unfortunately, the Rookie 49ers will have to travel to Modesto to take on the Modesto Broncos because of the seeding of the playoffs.

Congratulations and Good Luck to all the Turlock Youth Footballs teams for making the playoffs. The goal is to make it to — and ultimately win — the Super Bowl.  Go to www.cencalyouthfootball.com or www.turlockyouthfootball.com for more information.
