The Turlock Police Department was summoned to Brown Elementary Wednesday morning after a bag containing a box of ammunition and a magazine for a firearm were found on campus.

The ammunition and the magazine were found hanging on a door handle by a custodian prior to the start of the school day, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis. Officers searched the campus and did not locate any weapons.

The incident had been resolved and the items confiscated by the police officers by 7:20 a.m., said Mike Trainor, the assistant superintendent of Business Service.

A parental notification about the incident went out to all of the school’s parents, Trainor said.

“This appears to be an isolated incident and the students and school staff at Brown Elementary are safe,” Lewis said.
