A Turlock man’s plan to steal an unattended pickup truck went awry when he couldn’t get out of the parking lot quick enough.

According to the Turlock Police Department, Collin Krummel, 18, spotted an unattended and running pickup truck at Wayside Avenue and Geer Road Monday morning.

Krummel allegedly jumped into the truck and tried to speed away, but his escape plan was thwarted by heavy traffic in the parking lot.

The owner of the truck was able to run out and detain Krummel until police officers arrived and placed him under arrest for auto theft.
