The body of Jose Rodriguez was recovered from the Delta-Mendota canal Saturday morning.

Law enforcement had been searching for Rodriguez since he kidnapped 4-year-old Juliani Cardenas from his Patterson home on Jan. 18. Shortly after the kidnapping a witness saw Rodriguez drive his car into the canal with the young boy inside the vehicle. Cardenas’ body was discovered Feb. 1, in the area of Santa Nella.

Rodriguez’s body was found around 8:30 a.m. by an employee with the canal’s authority south of Patterson, near Fink Road. The site is about 11 miles from where the vehicle was seen going into the water.
