A Ceres man was killed in a solo vehicle crash Christmas morning along a stretch of country road just outside of Turlock.
The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Jorge Madrigal-Sanchez, 23.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the possibility that driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the fatal collision.
The accident occurred around 2:20 a.m. Friday on Central Avenue, south of West Main Street.
Madrigal-Sanchez was driving a 1993 Honda Accord northbound on Central at an unknown speed. For some unknown reason, Madrigal-Sanchez drove off the west shoulder of the road and struck a utility pole.
According to the CHP, the impact sent the car spinning back onto Central where it overturned several times.
The collision caused extensive damage to the driver’s side of the Accord and though Madrigal-Sanchez was wearing his seat belt, he sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
