A Hilmar man sustained serious injuries from a collision with a pickup truck in an area on the outskirts of Modesto Saturday night.

The California Highway patrol reported that Alfredo Zapien, 52, of Hilmar had major injuries following the crash on Albers Road and rushed to Doctors Medical Center.

Zapien was driving a 2007 Harley Davidson southbound on Albers Road, just past Dusty Lane around 6 p.m. Saturday night. According to the CHP, he was traveling at an estimated speed of 45 to 50 miles per hour when the collision occurred.

Zapien’s motorcycle drifted over the center line and into the northbound lane, where it collided with a 2017 Chevrolet truck driven by Brian Lee Skonovd, 64, of Denair.

The CHP stated Zapien made no attempts to stop or avoid the collision before the front of the Harley struck the left side of the truck. The CHP’s investigation has determined that Zapien was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the wreck.

The impact ejected Zapien off the motorcycle, resulting in the serious injuries. He was wearing a full-face helmet at the time of the crash.

Skonovd was not injured in the crash.

Zapien was placed under arrest at the hospital, according to the CHP.
