Hughson crash claims Denair man’s life
emergency

A 21-year-old Denair man was killed in a three-vehicle collision Thursday afternoon in Hughson, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The name of the deceased has not been released as of yet because next of kin notification is still pending, according to the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.

The collision was reported at 3:30 p.m. Thursday on Whitmore Avenue, east of Waring Road.

The 21-year-old Denair man was driving a 2014 Nissan sedan eastbound on Whitmore Avenue, just east of Waring Road.

A 2006 Ford SUV, driven by Avelino Araiza, 47, of La Grange was also headed westbound on Whitmore, approaching the Nissan and Waring Road.

Directly behind the Ford was a 2014 Toyota sedan driven by Monica Acevedo, 47, of Hughson.

For an unknown reason, the 21-year-old man allowed the Nissan to drift into the westbound lane, just as it was coming up to the Ford.

The left front of the Nissan struck the left front of the Ford, according to the CHP. The force of the impact sent the Nissan spinning in a clockwise direction, directly into the path of the Toyota. The front of the Toyota struck the right side of the Nissan.

The 21-year-old man was not wearing a seat belt and sustained injuries that proved fatal at the scene, according to the CHP.

Acevedo suffered major injuries from the crash and was rushed to Doctors Medical Center.

Araiza reported he was not injured.

It’s unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
