A 30-year-old Keyes man was arrested on multiple charges Sunday evening after he tried to flee police who initially thought he had attempted to rob the Mitchell Road 7-Eleven store.

At 6:37 p.m. officers were sent to the 7-11 at Mitchell and Service roads in Ceres for a customer report of an armed man inside the store committing a robbery. As police units were responding, it was reported that the suspect had left the store and was getting into a Silver Toyota Avalon. Officer Eric Gallegos saw the Toyota turn east onto Service Road and attempted to stop it. The driver did not stop and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit went eastbound on Service Road, southbound on Faith Home Road and then turned into a trailer park in the 4900 block of Faith Home Road. In an attempt to end the pursuit, Gallegos used a PIT (pursuit intervention technique) maneuver to immobilize the Toyota once inside the park. Driver Inderpal Sidhu, 30, of Keyes, and a 17-year-old passenger were detained.

Police determined that no robbery had taken place nor was any gun seen. They determined that Inderpal had only mentioned a weapon during an argument with another customer and that he kept his hand in his waist band as if he had a gun. The store clerk told another customer that Inderpal had a firearm and that customer called 911 stating the store was being robbed by an armed male.
