A shoplifting attempt at a Turlock grocery store turned into a robbery after the 19-year-old suspect kicked a security guard in the groin.

Heather Johnson, 19, was arrested on suspicion of robbery and booked into the Stanislaus County Jail following the Wednesday incident, the Turlock Police Department reported.

Shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday the police department was notified of a fight in progress at the Raley’s grocery store at 2900 Geer Rd.

A security guard had witnessed Johnson and Adam Beam, 27, shoplifting items from the store and confronted the pair, according to the police report.

Beam gave the merchandise he was holding back upon the security guard’s request, but Johnson refused to give back the toiletries she had allegedly taken, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

The confrontation between Johnson and the security guard took an ugly turn when she kicked him in the groin, according to the police report.

Police officers arrived around this time and took Johnson and Beam into custody. Beam was issued a citation for shoplifting and Johnson was booked for robbery.
