A Turlock man lost his life after he was struck by a train Wednesday night in downtown Turlock, the Turlock Police Department reported.
The deceased was identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as Jose Abel Rodriguez, 56, of Turlock.
The collision was reported to the police department at 8:07 p.m. Wednesday at the train crossing at W. Main and N. First streets.
Rodriguez rode his bicycle around the railroad crossing arms, which were down, according to the Turlock Police Department. He was hit from behind as he tried to cross the railroad tracks.
The first officers at the scene performed CPR until emergency medical responders arrived and transported Rodriguez to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The train had been traveling northbound just prior to the collision and blocked multiple intersections downtown while officers collected evidence and processed the scene.
