The Merced County Sheriff’s department is investigating a homicide in Delhi that resulted in the death of one man.

The deceased has been identified as Juan Reyes, 23.

Sheriff spokesman Sgt. Delray Shelton said the investigation was still in the early stages and he had few details to release.

Around 4 a.m. Sunday the sheriff’s department received a report of a possible shooting in the 16000 block of Jeffrey Court in Delhi.

The first deputies arriving at the scene found a Hispanic man lying in the front yard of a residence.

The man had been shot at least once and was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said Shelton.

The sheriff’s department has not released any other details about the shooting, any possible motive, or any suspect information at this time.
