Police arrested a Turlock man after witnesses saw him throw something at a vacant building, setting it ablaze.

Mario Alvarado, 20, was caught fleeing the scene of a building on fire in the 200 block of Main Street around 11:40 p.m. Sunday. He was arrested and charged with arson and possession of an explosive device — which was a Molotov cocktail, according to Officer Mayra Lewis.

Several thousand dollars of damage was done to the building, according to Lewis, but no one was injured in the fire.

Turlock Police is still investigating the incident. Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact Detective Jason Tosta at 664-7324.
