Pursuit ends with crash

A woman suspected of stealing a vehicle was apprehended Tuesday night after leading officers on a short pursuit and crashing the stolen vehicle.

Yesenia Cunyo, 33, was arrested on charges of possession of stolen property, hit and run and evading, according to the Turlock Police Department.

The incident began shortly before midnight Tuesday when officers on patrol spotted a stolen vehicle in the area of S. First Street and Golf Road.

The officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but it sped away. The pursuit continued to Oak Road, where the driver crashed the vehicle into some parked cars, causing it to roll over.

The occupants of the vehicle fled on foot and the Merced County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit was called to assist in the search.

About 30 minutes into the search law enforcement came upon Cunyo walking on Bloss Road. According to the police department Cunyo had injuries consistent with being in a crash and was placed under arrest.
