Suspect tries to lure teen into vehicle
TPD crime scene

A 15-year-old girl walking to school Tuesday was accosted by a man who repeatedly tried to get her into his vehicle. The girl avoided any potential harm by running from the man and reporting the incident to school officials.

The incident occurred at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of W. Linwood. The girl told officers she was walking to Fusion Charter school when a white van pulled up alongside her.

The man behind the wheel told the teen to get in the van, but she told him no and continued walking, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

The man continued to follow the girl as she walked, insisting she get into his van, Lewis said.

Growing more concerned for her safety, the girl took off running to the school and the suspect drove away. He was last seen in the area near Montana Avenue.

The suspect was described as an Indian man, unshaven, and possibly in his 30s. He had short black hair and was wearing a black shirt.

Officers searched the area, but did not locate the man or the van, Lewis said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Turlock Police Officer Mandy Smith at 668-5550 ext. 6701.
