The Merced County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Modesto man in Delhi on Friday in connection to a theft of gold.William Foster, 39, was wanted by the sheriff’s department on a felony warrant for stealing gold. Investigators had developed information that he was staying at a home in the 16000 block of Harmony Ranch Avenue in Delhi and made contact with him on Friday, said sheriff spokesman Deputy Tom MacKenzie.Located at the house was approximately $10,000 worth of gold and gold dust and several items that appeared to have been stolen from a gold processing plant, MacKenzie said. After checking different jurisdictions, detectives discovered that a gold processing plant in Stanislaus County had been burglarized during the night and “Pads” were stolen, MacKenzie said. “Pads” are used to collect gold dust and look like large Brillo pads.Foster was taken into custody and booked on possession of stolen property and has already bailed out on the $10,000 charge, MacKenzie said. While searching the house, the detectives found what is commonly called a “hype” kit, containing a syringe and approximately one gram of methamphetamine in the garage. Joe Medeiros, 55, of Delhi was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine after claiming ownership of the hype kit and remains jailed on $10,000 bail.To contact Sabra Stafford, e-mail sstafford@turlockjournal.com or call 634-9141 ext. 2002.
