A Turlock man was struck by multiple vehicles and killed while riding his bicycle on Lander Avenue Monday night.

The deceased was identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as Bret Jason Gerard, 43, of Turlock.

Gerard was riding his bicycle southbound on Lander Avenue, south of Clausen Road, shortly before 9 p.m. when he was struck by a 2012 Toyota driven by Peter Youhana, 42, of Ceres. Youhana was driving southbound on Lander Avenue at an estimated speed of 45 miles per hour.

The impact sent Gerard into the roadway and he was struck by several more vehicles, according to the California Highway Patrol. Gerard was pronounced dead at the scene.

Youhana stopped at the scene and called 911. He was not injured, though his passenger, Elizabeth Casillas, 48, of Los Banos was taken to Emanuel Medical Center for minor injuries.

Gerard was wearing dark clothing and did not have a helmet on or lights, the CHP reported.

It’s unknown at this time if alcohol and/or drugs were factors in the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.
