The California Highway Patrol is investigating a Turlock man for his role in a collision that claimed the life of a Patterson man Thursday night.

The crash was reported around 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the area of Hart Road and Highway 132 in Modesto.

It is suspected the Turlock man, identified as Harjit Bassi, 51, ran a red light, causing the collision, according to the CHP report.

The name of the deceased has not been released, pending family notification. He was described as a 51-year-old man from Patterson.

According to the CHP, the victim was driving a 2002 Dodge Ram pickup northbound on Hart Road. He was crossing Highway 132 on a green light when his truck was hit by a big rig, driven by Bassi, traveling east on 132.

The impact sent the Dodge Ram colliding into a Chevy Cobalt that was waiting to turn left onto Hart, the CHP reported.

The driver of the Dodge Ram was taken to Doctors Medical center, where he died from his injuries.

The male driver of the Chevy Cobalt and a passenger were treated for moderate injuries at Memorial Medical Center.

Bassi was not injured.

The CHP does not suspect drugs or alcohol as a factor in the collision.

Bassi could face charges once the investigation is complete, the CHP reported.
