School homecomings are a way to ignite school spirit, celebrate accomplishments and entice some friendly competition among students. California State University, Stanislaus celebrated their annual homecoming tradition this week by hosting a series of weeklong events including a dance, music video compilations, a parade and of course, the annual homecoming rally.

“We really try to make homecoming week a ‘Warrior’ event for all students, and not reserve it for only clubs or organizations,” said Ryan Shea Collins, special events coordinator for Code Red Entertainment.

Code Red Entertainment is comprised of the Associated Students Incorporated and University Student Union groups, which work together, along with their seven sub-programs, to generate a memorable homecoming week each year. Students apply for homecoming king and queen nominations through their clubs and academic departments and then are asked to participate in a variety of tasks amounting to about 30 hours of involvement. Unlike traditional high school homecomings, students do not vote for the candidates, but rather the homecoming king and queen are chosen based on their commitment to the homecoming activities and are awarded points for participation. 

“Some of the events are keeping with traditions while others are new. Students look forward to our rally every year and it is a great way to spread campus pride and encourage our boys and girls basketball teams who will compete against the San Bernardino Coyotes on Friday,” said Collins.
