With just over 80 days until the Nov. 3 general election, local races are taking shape as the deadline for entry closed last week, while the deadline for a handful of other races closes today at 5 p.m.

In the city of Turlock, the mayor’s seat and two city council positions are up for grabs.

Mayor Amy Bublak, who has served on the city council since 2010, is seeking a third term as mayor and what would years 17 through 20 in city hall. Health care professional Jim Reape, who sits on the city’s planning commission, and private investigator Kelley Coelho, will vie to unseat Bublak.

Meanwhile, District 1 Councilmember Kevin Bixel will face Jeremy Rocha, while District 3 Councilmember Cassandra Abram will attempt to fend off a challenge from Ryan Taylor.

Two incumbents are seeking additional terms as trustees on the Turlock Unified School District board.

Area 4 incumbent Mary Jackson is being challenged by Jayden Betbabanta, while Area 6 incumbent Patrick Shields is running unopposed.

As of now, Sal Lorea is running unopposed for the Area 3 seat currently held by Anna Ramirez. The deadline to enter that race is 5 p.m. today.

In Hughson, Mayor George Carr is seeking another term and will be pushed by Geoff Powers and Sam Rush. Three other candidates are in contention for two open city council seats. They are incumbent Julie Ann Strain, Ranjit Singh, and Brian Evans.

Three seats are open on the Hughson Unified School District Board with Area 4 incumbent Randy Heckman and District 5 incumbent Mark Foss both running unopposed. The deadline for the Area 2 seat will close at 5 p.m. today – a candidate has yet to emerge.

Denair Unified School District trustees Kathi Dunham-Filson and board president Billy Myers are seeking reelection, while challengers Gaby Cortes and Mike Baker have joined the fray. Voters may choose any two of the four candidates for the open seats.

In the Gratton School District, incumbents Keith Coonce and Jessica Mora, along with challenger Philip Wagner, are vying for three seats, meaning all a guaranteed a spot on the board.

Jimmy Emmons (Area 2), Jeff Reed (Area 3), and Wesley Greene (Area 5) are not facing challengers for seats on the Keyes Union School District Board.

Area 2 incumbent Alison Carvalho and Area 5 incumbent Anthony Avila are unopposed for positions on the Chatom Union School District Board, while Area 1 challenger Michelle Machado also is unopposed, though the deadline to enter that race is 5 p.m. today.

Stanislaus County Board of Education Area 2 incumbent Alice Pollard is running unopposed.

In neighboring Merced County, seven candidates are seeking positions on the Hilmar Unified School District Board. Erika Tremble, Camy Honore, and Talena Perry are vying for the Area 1 seat, while incumbent Rob Machado, Kelly Vincent, and Marco Alvares are the candidates in Area 2. Luis Freitas, the incumbent in Area 3, is unopposed.
