Next week will be one of celebration and nostalgia at Turlock High School as homecoming festivities will serve as the build up to the start of the Central California Athletic League football slate and the induction of new members to its athletics Hall of Fame.
Kevin Kramer, Brett Cumberland and the 1970 varsity football team will be inducted into the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 10, with several events taking place in the days leading up to the weekend ceremony.
After all the themed dress up days for students and the annual morning rally on Oct. 9, Turlock’s student organizations, teams and homecoming court will parade down Main Street alongside this year’s Hall of Fame inductees. The downtown parade will begin at 3 p.m.
Kramer, Cumberland and the undefeated Bulldog gridders will also be on hand at Joe Debely Stadium later that day to serve as honorary captains for the 7 p.m. varsity kickoff between Turlock and Enochs in the CCAL opener. Several graduating classes from previous years will also be honored and have special seats behind the south end zone as part of annual Alumni Weekend festivities.
The Diamond ‘Dogs will then dedicate the following morning to Kramer and Cumberland’s baseball backgrounds by giving back to the future generation of ballplayers with a youth baseball camp.
Kramer and Cumberland will be joined by a handful of Turlock baseball alumni such as fellow former professionals Blake Cederlind and Steve Soderstrom, as well as current coaches and players, to provide hitting, fielding and throwing instruction to young players. Saturday’s camp will run from 10 a.m. to noon and is only open to 4th through 8th grade players. Registration, which is limited to 60 participants, costs $25 and is currently open at https://forms.gle/N6G13vNFHLgqBetr6.
Saturday at 4 p.m. will bring the long-awaited immortalization of the star Turlock student-athletes at the official Hall of Fame induction ceremony inside Bulldog Arena. The induction ceremony will be free and open to the public. A Q&A with the newest Hall of Famers will follow the induction speeches.
Donations will also be accepted for the Turlock High Athletics Department and the new THS Alumni Booster Association.
Those interested in making donations or with questions can contact THS Assistant Principal Aaron Mello at amello@turlock.k12.ca.us or by calling (209) 585-6541.
