The paving in the newly installed water line trench in East Main Street is not good, and the City knows. The contractor has finished installing a new water main along East Main between Canal Drive and Bonita and the new lines have been tested and charged. The trenches have been filled and compacted and topped with some temporary asphalt, which makes for a bumpy roadway. The next step in this process is to grind the street surface and then repave the entire lane of the street.
The contractor will be prepping the street surface by grinding it down and then installing the final layer of asphalt beginning on Wednesday and completing the job on Sept. 28. The road surface will then be smooth and free of dips and indentations. The contractor will start at the intersection of Bonita and Olive and work down Canal to the intersection of Main. Work for Thursday will include grinding on E. Main from Canal to Palm and Friday and next Monday paving East Main will be completed.
“Turlock is committed to repairing and maintaining our vital infrastructure,” said Mayor Gary Soiseth. ”While the detours and uneven pavement have been an inconvenience, these projects are important to preserving and maintaining our vital water system.”
For the safety of the community, East Olive Avenue will be closed to all traffic approaching Canal for the morning of Wednesday. Detours will be in place. East Main will be closed to all traffic approaching Canal on Wednesday also. Again, detours will be in place.
