History of Business: Having recently moved to Turlock, photographer and business owner Kimberly Towns has brought along not only her family, but her passion for photography.

As a mother of six, Towns says that her enthusiasm for the art was heavily influenced by her children.

“Having six children, I was always snapping pictures of them and loving it because it was a lot of fun,” said Towns. “Digital is a really great era for photography because there are a lot of resources available.”

With a degree in photography from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, Towns recently made the move to Turlock from Sonoma County alongside her husband Jeremiah and their six children to be closer to their relatives.

“My 14-year old brother-in-law was killed in an ATV accident,” said Towns, as she explained the struggles her family had been recently facing. “We felt like God was directing us to move to this area, as we had a lot of different family matters going on. It was time for us to move here.”

After moving to Turlock, Towns decided to use her passion for photography to open her own business, K.T. Photography and Studio. Although her new studio is located at Jon Terry’s former studio, another well-known Turlock photographer, Towns says that Terry is continuing to accept photography appointments out of his home.

Even though Towns may be a new photographer to Turlock, she has a myriad of experience as she worked as a free-lance photographer in the Sonoma County area for nearly 5 years.

“I couldn’t imagine doing anything other than photography right now,” said Towns. “Well, besides being a mom.”

A recurring theme at the opening night of the 2025 Stanislaus County Fair in Turlock — the 107th edition of the annual event — was the heat. Sure, it's not 108 degrees like last year, but 102 on Friday afternoon wasn't too far off.
