Turlock resident Kelsey Verschelden is making her stage debut in the Playhouse Merced production of “Cinderella.”

Verschelden, 19, will play a role as part of the ensemble and will be joined by fellow Turlock residents Roni Espinoza, Rachel Rodrigues and Dani Williams.

“I’m proud to be part of this cupcake-like production,” Verschelden said.

Verschelden is studying Theater Arts at Modesto Junior College.

“Cinderella” tells the classic story of the young girl who lives with her mean stepmother and stepsisters, and dreams of meeting the prince and living happily ever after.  With songs by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, the musical is filled with tunes like “The Prince is Giving a Ball,” “Ten Minutes Ago” and “Impossible.”

Originally produced for television in 1957 with Julie Andrews in the lead role, it was produced again for television in 1965 with Lesley Ann Warren.  More recently, Disney produced a television movie in 1997 with Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as The Fairy Godmother.

“Cinderella” opens Friday and plays weekends through Dec. 19. Tickets are on sale now for Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets prices are: Adults: $20; seniors: $17; students: $10; children: $8. Purchase tickets by calling 725-8587, or stopping by the box office at 452 West Main St. in downtown Merced.
