Two junior college outfielders and a freshman pitcher have been added to the Cal State Stanislaus softball team, coach Jan Schefkowtiz announced this week. Rachel Borges, Lauren Liming and Natalie Rendon all signed national letters of intent and have enrolled in classes recently.
Borgas is a transfer from Delta College in Stockton, where the outfielder was a two-time Big 8 Conference first-team selection. Borgas batted. 452, scored 51 runs and stole 26 bases to earn all-state honors.
Borgas was part of the 2011 undefeated Delta College team that went 37-0 during the regular season. Delta College, which finished 44-2, was the state runner-up after winning the NorCal regionals. Borgas spent her prep career at Modesto Christian, where she was a four-time all-conference player.
Liming is a transfer from Sacramento City College, where she batted .310 with 10 doubles, five home runs, drove in 26 runs and stole 19 bases. She led the team with 41 runs scored to help Sacramento CC finish 34-11 in 2011.
At Dublin High School, Liming was a four-time all-league selection and was the offensive MVP during her senior year.
"Rachel is a leader and a gifted athlete. She will be an impact player from the start of the season," Schefkowitz said. "Lauren gives us experience and a big bat in the middle of the lineup."
Rendon was a three-time all-conference pitcher at Buchanan High in Clovis. The all-state second team selection posted a 21-1 record with a 1.15 ERA. She struck out 123 batters in 145 innings.
Rendon help led the team to two conference championships in 2010 and 2011. The team also won a sectional championship in 2009, while finishing 2011 ranked at No. 12 in the state and No. 33 in the nation.
"Natalie is an accomplished pitcher who can compete at this level as a freshman," Schefkowitz added.
