The sight of an idling car with a passed out man behind the wheel prompted a call to the Turlock Police Department and led to the arrest of a man on suspicion of narcotic sales.

The call came in to the Turlock Police Department around 6 a.m. Friday. The caller reported seeing a man passed out behind the wheel of an idling vehicle in the middle of the roadway in the 1400 block of W. Canal Drive.

Officers responded to the area and found Deaton Alexander, 34, of Turlock inside the running vehicle. Alexander is known to the officers and is on probation, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Mike Parmley.

A search of the vehicle was conducted and turned up a large quantity of methamphetamines, marijuana, a scale and cash. Alexander was arrested on suspicion of narcotics sales.
