MODESTO — Turlock High School’s varsity cross country teams opened the Central California Athletic League season with a sweep last Wednesday at Tuolumne River Regional Park, winning both team competitions with low scores.

The Bulldog boys won their race with 28 points, comfortably ahead of Modesto’s 55. Pitman finished third with 69 points.

Turlock’s girls captured the girls team title with 31 points, finishing ahead of runner-up Gregori, which scored 46. Pitman placed fourth with 81 points.

GIRLS

Senior Mylie Olson led the girls with a second-place finish in the 5,000-meter race, clocking 20:59.4. She finished behind Modesto’s Roselynn Dominguez and her time of 20:00.6.

Three of Olson’s teammates placed in the top 10, with senior Gretchen Nass coming in fourth at 21:25.4, followed by freshman Isabel Richter in sixth at 22:17 and junior Amrit Kaur Sahota in ninth at 22:48.6.

Pitman sophomore Elianna Jigour was the finisher for her team, placing 10th with a time of 23:11.1.

Other Turlock runners competing in the girls race were Samira Salem in 13th (23:44.7), Adaline Walsh in 14th (23:53.5) and Grace Nass in 21st (24:50.8).

Pitman’s remaining finishers in the girls contest were Ruth Noemi Arellano in 15th (23:54.0), Melanie Delgado in 18th (24:18.3), Kinsley Latter in 19th (24:34.3), Andrea Diaz Topete in 24th (25:19.9), Sophia Tran in 27th (25:50.3), Angelica Silva in 33rd (28:29.6), Kayla Fuentes in 42nd (31:53.8), Aberdeen Mcleod in 43rd (31:54.4) and Isabella Stepanovich in 45th in (34:15.1).

BOYS

Turlock sophomore Porter Petty led the Bulldogs with a second-place performance with his time of 16:31.8. He finished just under 20 seconds behind first-place runner Ivan Rodriguez. Turlock senior Gavin Martin was right behind Rodriguez and Petty with a third-place mark of 16:44.0.

Pitman senior Eli Pimentel finished fourth overall with a time of 16:56.6.

The Bulldogs added four other top-10 finishes in senior Zayn Hamilton in sixth (17:28.6), senior Austin Hall in eighth (17:49.4), junior Logan Oliveira in ninth (17:50.6) and junior Joey Barragan in 10th (17:51.5).

Other Turlock runners competing were Cylus Costa in 11th (17:51.7), Jackson Blood in 12th (18:00.2), Jacob Myers in 29th (20:18.2), Caleb Staley in 45th (22:56.6) and Luis Santillanes in 50th (24:55.1).

Pitman runners who rounded out the afternoon were Eli Scott in 14th (18:33.5), Dominic Moreno in 16th (18:52.7), Corbin Fisher in 19th (19:20.5), Moises Rosales in 21st (19:34.6), Adam Mumford in 22nd (19:36.0), Rowan Montes in 24th (19:52.6), Christian Howard in 27th (20:09.9), Grayson Turley in 31st (20:35.3), Jude Caine in 37th (21:18.7), Victor Sanchez in 41st (21:52.0), Tobin Persons in 43rd (22:43.5), Lucas Kiriakou in 49th (23:59.5), Josias Martinez in 52nd (26:05.2) and Jude Killian in 55th (27:25.6).
