Don Pedro Recreation Agency will offer free admission and camping for all active United States military personnel, veterans and their families beginning on Thursday in honor of Veteran’s Day.

“We decided to do this not only to honor veterans, but also to give folks an opportunity to visit the recreational area in hopes that they would come back again another time,” said DPRA Department Manager Carol Russell.

The men and women who served or continue to serve will be given the opportunity to take advantage of free all day use from Thursday to Nov. 12 and camping from Thursday to Nov. 1 at all campgrounds in the DPRA, including Fleming Meadows, Moccasin Point and Blue Oaks.

Russell said that all facilities will be open, with the exception of Fleming Meadows swimming lagoon. Don Pedro offers camping at three developed campgrounds, including Fleming Meadows, Moccasin Point and Blue Oaks. Additionally, the Fleming Meadows location includes 90 full hook-up campsites and free hot showers.

Don Pedro has over 5,500 surface acres and 100 miles of shoreline to explore and enjoy. Despite the drought, DPRA assured that there are still plenty of opportunities to enjoy boating, camping, watersports and fishing at Don Pedro Reservoir. Boat launch facilities will be available at the Fleming Meadows Recreation Area.

Russell said that she encourages those who plan on taking advantage of free admission, camping or group activities with DPRA to make a reservation beforehand.

“This is important to thank their service to their country and to offer them an opportunity to get together with each other as well,” said Russell.
