Dust Bowl’s big first half
Local brewery opens new taproom, awarded plenty of hardware
Dust Bowl awards 1
Dust Bowl recently won a Gold Crushie award in the category of best printed can design for their Hops of Wrath IPA.

It was an eventful first six months of the year for Dust Bowl Brewing Co. of Turlock. In the midst of the construction of their Livermore taproom, which officially opened on Wednesday, the company received a plethora of awards recognizing their unique marketing in the craft beer world.

On May 9, the Craft Beer Marketing Awards were held in Nashville, where the local brewery took home four of 17 “Crushies,” the craft beer marketing-equivalent to an Oscar or Grammy.

The awards were established in 2019 to honor the best marketing of the brewing industry. It is a worldwide competition that focuses specifically on excellence in the artistic and creative marketing and packaging efforts of breweries.

Dust Bowl earned the Gold Crushies for best brand identity for their Taco Truck Lime Lager, best printed can design for their Hops of Wrath IPA and for best tasting room experience and unique beer flight presentation. They earned the Platinum Crushie for best original video and storytelling for their official company video, which can be viewed on their website, www.DustBowlBrewing.com/Story.

Dust Bowl livermore
Dust Bowl Brewing of Turlock opened its fourth taproom on Wednesday in Livermore, where they will be serving their many award-winning drinks.

“We were so impressed by the sheer creativity, innovation, and caliber of marketing displayed in entries this year in every category," said CBMAS co-founder Jim McCune, "More than 600 industry professional judges from around the world had their work cut out for them this year.”

Less than two months later, construction at the company’s fourth taproom wrapped up. The Livermore location opened its doors to the public on June 28, serving as an anchor tenant in the Shops at Livermore, next to the world-famous San Francisco Premium Outlets.

“We are excited to open our latest taproom in the East Bay,” said founder and co-owner Brett Tate. “Livermore has a thriving craft beer community, which we are eager to join. Our location near the San Francisco Premium Outlets provides us great proximity to a busy retail area and easy access from the 580 corridors. We’ve been distributing our beer to the Bay Area since 2015, so we have solid brand awareness in the region. The taproom provides yet another way to engage and experience our brand.”

The space is approximately 10,000 square feet. The outdoor area featured fire pits and corn hole boards in a turf area. The bar boasts a back-to-back 30 tap tower of Dust Bowl’s beers and seltzers. The bar also offers two dedicated taps for the brewery’s popular smoothie beers.

The Turlock brewery is also joining forces with Hazy Barbecue Livermore Pit Stop, which will serve as the taproom’s resident food truck.

The Livermore taproom is located at 3034 W. Jack London Blvd. It is open Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
