Fire at vacant home

The cause of a fire in a Turlock vacant home remains under investigation.

Turlock City Fire Department responded to reports of a working structure fire at 4:52 p.m. Friday in the 1600 block of Lantana Way

Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy smoke and flames issuing from a bedroom window. Crews aggressively attacked the fire and were able to contain it to the room of origin, according to the fire department.

No occupants were found inside house. Once the fire was under control, an investigation was started to determine the cause and origin. The investigation revealed the house was vacant, however, the owner of the home stated there has been an ongoing trespassing issues. Neighbors confirmed there had been foot traffic on the property.

Turlock Fire responded with three engines, Squad 32, one battalion chief and two division chiefs. Ceres Fire provided mutual aid assistance with one fire engine and one battalion chief while Turlock Rural provided city coverage.
