A fire Tuesday afternoon caused moderate damage to a garage, while fire fighters had to contend with battling the blaze in 100 plus temperatures.

The fire was reported around 4:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of Niel Avenue in Turlock.

The origin of the fire was traced back to the exterior of the detached residential garage. The exact cause is under investigation. The fire caused an estimated $2,500 in damages, according to the Turlock Fire Department.

The fire extended to the roof of the garage, with a small amount of flames reaching the interior. The fire was brought under control by the 12 firefighters within several minutes of their arrival, though full extinguishment took about 20 more minutes because of extensive spreading to the roof, the fire department reported.

American Medical Response was at the scene to assist firefighters dealing with the sweltering heat. Tuesday’s high temperature in Turlock reached 103 degrees.

No one was injured or displaced because of the fire.
